The Prabhakara School of Purva Mimamsa

The Prabhakara School of Purva Mimamsa is one of the two main branches of the ancient Indian philosophical tradition of Mimamsa, which focuses on the interpretation of Vedic texts and rituals. Founded by the philosopher Prabhakara, this school emphasizes the importance of correct ritual performance (karma) as a means of achieving spiritual liberation. Unlike the other major Mimamsa school, the Kumarila School, Prabhakara’s school takes a more lenient stance on the interpretation of scriptures, focusing on the intrinsic meaning and context of Vedic texts. The school also emphasizes the role of dharma (moral duty) in understanding and practicing the rituals.
