The author reveals that Mohammedan historians generally tire the patience of the reader by too minute a detail of sieges and battles, of murder and intrigue, without relieving the fatiguing sameness of their narratives, by the more pleasing and instructive accounts of individual character, or the policy and domestic manners of a people. This work is a translation of the Muslim history of Gujarat written in Persian by Ali Mohammad Khan, called the Mirat Ahmadi, covering the period between the ends of the 10th century up to the death of Akbar in 1605 AD. There are three sections in this book that, among other topics, give preliminary observations of Gujarat; the beginnings of the kingdom; capture of Somnath by Mahmud Ghazni; reign of Mohammad Tughlaq Shah; the succeeding Tughlaqs; the government of Zafir Khan; Mohammad Shah I; Sultan Bahadur; the capture of Surat; Shahbuddin Ahmad Khan; Mirza Khan; Mirza Aziz Koka; the suicide of Muzaffir etc. This book was published under the superintendence of the Oriental Translation Fund of Great Britain and Ireland. It is a reprint of the 1835 edition.
