In 1858, John Forbes Royle embarked on a significant exploration of fibers, spurred by the growing demand for Indian fibers in the midst of Europe's tumultuous times. Prompted by Joseph Hume, the Society of Arts invited Royle to compose a paper on Indian Fibers. While juggling various commitments, he presented a lecture on the subject in April 1854. The lecture, subsequently published in the 'Journal of the Society of Arts'. Him undertake the extensive task of compiling comprehensive work on Indian Fibers, surpassing his initial scope.
