Srauta-Sutra Of Latyayana: With The Commentary Of Agniswami

The Srauta-sutras are that branch of the Vedic Literature which describe the ritual in a Sutra-style. Indispensable for the knowledge of the Vedic ritualism, they are also a source of the history of Ancient India. About sixteen Srauta-sutras have come down to us, of which two belong to Rigveda, four to Samaveda, one each to Atharvaveda and white Yajurveda, while eight belong to Black Yajurveda. The Latyayana Srauta Sutra belongs to the Samaveda. It lays down the duties of the Udgatars, the Samavedic priests, in various Soma-sacrifices. First published in 1872 by Asiatic Society of Bengal, the work has been out of print since a long time. The importance of the present edition has been greatly enhanced by the addition of a new appendix containing corrections and emendations to the text, prepared by Dr. C.G. Kashikar, a masterhand on vedic-rituals. The work is indispensable for every vedic scholar.
