Religious and Quasi-Religious Departments of the Mughal Period (1556-1707)

The study of various institutions of a government, fascinating in itself, enlightens also the object underlying them and reveals their effects on society and economy of the country. The religious institutions of the Mughal Rulers-who have left an indelible mark on all aspects of Indian administrative Organisations, life and culture have their own story to tell in the governmental machinery of the day. This work is a critical appreciation of the functions and working of the judiciary, the penal code, the department of religious affairs, charitable grants and their implication, state patronage of education and learning, and the censorship of public morals.
