This book seeks to fulfill a specific need – providing a readily accessible guide to Indian Mammalia. Presently, the only available resource of its kind concentrates solely on the Indian Peninsula, thus neglecting the diverse and enthralling species in Assam, Burmah, Ceylon, and the regions bordering the northern fringes of the British Indian Empire. To enhance its usefulness, this work covers all territories that hunters from India might explore. It departs from the conventional, formal style of compiled "Natural Histories" and instead embraces a conversational and anecdotal approach, drawing from the author, his associates, and respected authorities on the subject.
