Memoir On The Sawunt Waree State

- The author has made an elaborate attempt to narrate the memoir on the Sawunt Waree State and during that period the statistical report on the Portuguese settlements in India is also given. Khem Sawunt, who ascended the throne in A.D. 1675, appears to have succeeded in establishing his independence of the Musulman power. He carried on constant wars with the neighboring Portuguese state of Goa; and during his reign the boundaries of the State were considerably extended. The book is the product of extensive study of that era. Apart from this the census report, treaties, antiquities are given along with maps and inscriptions to make the subject easily comprehend. The subject of the book is illuminating and good in historical point of view. There is no statement in the book to which exception may justly be taken.
