Lectures on Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason

This book contains lectures on the Critique of Pure Reason delivered by J.N. Mohanty at Temple University, USA. These lectures are culmination of Mohanty’s life-long engagement with the Philosophy of Kant. With a view to situating Kant in the proper perspective the author carefully mentions and explains some points of contact and those of contrast between Kant and some pre-Kantian philosophers on the one hand, and between Kant and many post-Kantian philosophers on the other. He has discussed views of Kant Scholars whose works are not easily available or have not been translated in English. This is a great help to the study of the Critique of Pure Reason. Important philosophical concepts and arguments contained in the First Critique have been thoroughly analysed and examined in this book. Originality of thought, clarity and lucidity of expression and simplicity of style have made this volume a significant addition to famous commentaries on the Critique. While editing the volume, the editors have retained the conversational style of the original lectures as far as practicable so that the readers of the volume may have some flavour of Mohanty’s teaching.
