“The book Globalization and Market Outcomes: Strategic Evidences” traces the trajectory of reforms in India across the span of about two and a half decades cutting across the regimes of total control, partial decontrol and total decontrol, employing the mainline Structure-Conduct-Performance (S-C-P) framework. Using the magnificent canvas offered by the Indian cement industry, the book examines the empirical evidences of the linkages between liberalization and industry performance through the behaviour of price- cost margins. The study for the first time employed the Extended S-C-P Model in examining the simultaneity of relationships not only how structure influences performance but also how the industry performance has impacted upon structure via new investment. Many of the findings of the study, especially the role technology, scale economies, mergers and acquisitions, emerging trends towards cartels and the need for a powerful regulatory framework, are of much topical relevance.
