Ghosts: An Enemy of the People: The Wild Duck

Ghosts, a play by Henrik Ibsen, written in Danish in 1881 and first staged in Chicago in 1882, explores 19th-century morality, delving into controversial topics such as religion, venereal disease, incest, and euthanasia. Despite initial public outcry, it has come to be regarded as a "great play" of immense historical importance. The narrative centers on Mrs. Helen Alving, widow of Captain Alving, revealing family secrets, syphilis, and complex relationships. Ghosts faced criticism for its explicit content and challenging societal norms. The English title, disliked by Ibsen, differs from the original meaning of "The Revenants."
