Information is regarded as power in modern times. This power is stored, processed and disseminated in the libraries and information centres for efficient and effective use. In the process of more and more advancement and research LIS has become interdisciplinary education. Many new branches of knowledge, such as, management studies, computer science, information science, information technology, communication studies, etc., have been accepted by LIS discipline. Some of the other reasons like global dissemination of information, revolution of information technology, telecommunication advancement, professional education through distance system, medium of education in regional language, modernised objective type of evaluation method, have also worked behind the development of the present glossary. The book covers carefully selected terms used in the literature produced by the Indian Library Scientists in various branches of the discipline. Every term is followed with explanation and Hindi/English term vice versa to facilitate the users. This is the first effort of this kind which will certainly be of much use for those who want to know LIS at a glance. The LIS is a service oriented discipline and the service requires establishment of links in between, and as such the bilingual effort will enhance the use of the book.
