City Planning: Administration and Participation (PUG-15)

This is the third set of volumes in the well known series entitled Concept\'s International Series in Geography. This multi-volume set has a wide coverage under the Perspectives in Urben Geography. The earlier two sets in the series were : Perspectives in Agricultural Geography and Perspectives in Geomorphology. Traditional studies on aspects of Urban Geography had been concentrating on observational records of developments of towns and cities till the subject came to acquire a behavioural approach recently. What resulted was a new matrix of philosophies, methodologies and their ingenious application to what had been researched through the years. The present set of volumes ventures to make a rigorous survey of the literature on Urban Geography after its reorientation as it were. The theme of the present volume City Planning, Administration and Participation is how to manage our bewildered cities through public participation and local governmental action. The papers included in this volume reflect management of the cities and discuss the problems and processes of planned social change, particularly through the new approach of citizen participation.The first part of the volume deals with the question of city administration and how to tackle the city\'s problems. In the second part, ways and means to increase citizen participation are discussed. Whatever the causes, the examination of the variety of ways for securing public participation in different legal and cultural environments should be of some importance to, all those who believe that planning is for people. The contributions to the volume have been made by experts in various fields from around the world.
