The Environment and Development Book Series is broutht out by Media for Sustainable Development (MSD), a core unit at the Centre for Environment Education, India. This landmark series funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) seeks to bring development alternatives for a variety of ecological situations to the notice of decision makers and policy planners. Media for Sustainable Development aims to develop general awareness and provide policy support on key environment and development issues. MSD also maintains a website forum www.envirodebate.net with the support of Ford Foundation, to widen involvement and participation in major environment development debates of the day.
The Centre for Environment Education (CEE) was established in August 1984 as a Centre of Excellence supported by the Ministry of Environment and forests, Government of India. The primary mandate of the Centre is to improve public awareness and understanding of environmental issues with a view to promote the conservation and wise use of nature and natural resources. CEE received India’s highest award, the ‘Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar’ for the year 1997, in recognition of the quality and impact of its contribution in the field of environmental education.
