The book is the product of extensive study and research work after the breakup of the Moghul Empire when foreign powers like Dutch, English, and French tried their best to establish their supremacy. It is wonderfully researched and has inputs from all quarters of the power struggle ? the French and English, the Mysore king Haider Ali and Tipu Sultan, the Marathas, the Nepalis, the Sikhs, the Afghans and Sind. The book ndends with the death of the East India Company on 2 August 1858. The revolt of 1857 is not discussed in this book. The book was published in 1914
