Problems and Challenges in Food Security Programmeduring Disasters

The whole SubSaharan Africa and especially in Ethiopia, the household’s capacity to manage risk is very low due to multiple factors coupled with a poor asset based lives, which makes them vulnerable to food insecurity. Consequently, policy interventions designed to reduce vulnerability are becoming increasingly important, making it crucial to develop reliable and easily applied measures of vulnerability to enhance the targeting efficiency of such policy measures. In particular, the welfare status of a substantial share of the population may be just above the food security threshold.Food security situation in Ethiopia is highly linked to recurring food shortage and famine in the country, which are associated to recurrentdrought. Ethiopia is chronically affected by multiple hazards as well as floods and drought as the main risks. Due to this above 20 million people were vulnerable to poverty and food insecurity. This research study was focused at Dewe district, Afar region Ethiopia.This book emphasizes on the problems and challenges of food security programme during the disasters and focuses on rural household’s resilience to food insecurity, food security status and household’s coping mechanisms and explains various adaptive strategies.This book is very essential to those who are working in organizations dealing with food supply and disaster management programmes.
