The author has made an elaborate attempt to draw a fine sketch about Notes on the Bauddha RockTemples of Ajanta. The Buddhist Caves in Ajanta are approximately 30 rockcut Buddhist cave monuments dating from the 3rd century BCE to about 480 CE in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra state in India. The caves include paintings and rockcut sculptures described as among the finest surviving examples of ancient Indian art, particularly expressive paintings that present emotions through gesture, pose and form. It constitutes ancient monasteries and worshiphalls of different Buddhist traditions carved into a 75metre (246 ft) wall of rock. The caves also present paintings depicting the past lives and rebirths of the Buddha, pictorial tales from Aryasura’s Jatakamala, and rockcut sculptures of Buddhist deities. The Ajanta Caves are mentioned in the memoirs of several medievalera Chinese Buddhist travellers to India and by a Mughalera official of Akbar era in the early 17th century. The book is extensive study and research of these temples and their paintings and sculptures. The book contains 21 plates and illustrations to make it more interesting and worth readable.
