The author has prepared the text of these three volumes set painstakingly. It describes the first excavation work that took place in the five winter seasons between 1922 and 1927. The excavation was carried out under the charge of the author, then director general of Archaeology Survey in India. Never for a moment it was it imagined that five thousand years ago, before ever the Aryans were heard of the Punjab and Sind, if not their parts of India as well, were an enjoying and advanced and singularly uniform civilization of their won, closely akin in some respects but in superior to that of contemporary Mesopotamia and Egypt. Yet this is what discoveries at Harappa and MahenjoDaro have now placed beyond questioned. It was an official account of archaeological excavations. The first volume contains 19 chapters, the second volume contains 13 chapters, appendices and index, the third volume has 10 chapters. It has an excellent reference tool. It contains also fine 164 illustrations which the author has preserved from oblivion with plan and map.
