JOHN RAWLS: Concept of Justice

John Rawls’ reputation as a social-political thinker soared into prominence soon after his A Theory of Justice (1971) was published. The book examines the foundation of Rawlsian concept of (social) justice and gives a penetrating account of its structure by analyzing ‘justice as fairness’, ‘two principles of justice’ (impinging on ‘equality principle’ and ‘difference principle’), ‘concept of social order’, ‘principles of political obligations’, etc. The book draws on many materials and sources making John Rawls familiar and accessible particularly to the Indian readers. It also sheds light on Rawls’ basic philosophical and methodological principles as manifested in A Theory of Justice and will be useful as an introduction to Rawls for students and scholars of Political Science, Sociology and Philosophy.
