Two volumes of book are in the Portuguese language, and give a detailed political and archaeological history of Goa, pre, and during the Portuguese period. The first volume contains Historia Politica with two parts. Part one covers Goa prePortuguesa and part two covers Goa Portuguesa. The second volume contains Historia Arqueologica and part three contains Monumentos Arqueologica. The Portuguese rule in Goa lasted for as long as 450 years, and heavily influenced Goan culture, cuisine, and architecture. In 1961, the Indian Army invaded and annexed Goa after a 36 hour battle. The region was incorporated as a union territory of Goa, Daman and Diu. In 1987, Goa was granted statehood. The history of the Portuguese in Goa was similar to the British in India. It is interesting to know that while the Portuguese ruled Goa, their country itself was ruled by Spain from the late 16th century for a period of 60 years. The period is known as the 1580 Portuguese succession crisis and is known to be a result of the death of a young king Sebastian of Portugal. This set is a reprint of the 1925 edition.
