DISCOVERING VIDISHA: Art, Archaeology and Architecture

Vidisha is one of the richest regions of Central India yielding vast archaeological wealth. Renowned in ancient literature as the capital of Akara and Dasarna and as a centre of cultural activities, with trade routes passing through it, the place has naturally attracted attention of archaeologists from time to time. Explorations and excavations conducted here proved unhampered cultural growth of the region from the protohistoric times to the period of the Paramaras of Malwa. The ancient literary evidences and available protohistoric, epigraphic, numismatic, art and architectural source material have undoubtedly proved that Vidisha region represented one of the chief centres in the country where religious and cultural integration was fructified.
