In this age of information explosion, every educated person is expected to be acquainted with basic facts about all aspects of one?s national life. However, it is hardly possible to seek information on various subjects and topics of general interest from among the mass of material found in an ever increasing number of publications. The best method to obtain the relevant information is to narrow the pavement by the help of reference guides which provide, in capsule form, all mix of information relating to everyday life, the important events, issues and problems of one?s country. The present Diary is intended to serve this purpose. Although it is a companion volume of Information India, it is an independent volume in itself. It provides, in a concise form, information about a large number of topics and subjects of general interest for non-specialist readers in an intelligent manner, not withstanding that it also includes information on specialised and technical subjects.
