The present study on dairy cooperativization with reference to tribal area and its people is perhaps first work of its kind. It is basically devoted to the study of three aspects, namely, the experience of modern dairy cooperative system in tribal area, the comparative strength and weaknesses of Anand pattern modern dairy cooperative structure and traditional dairy cooperative structure, and socio-economic impact of the dairy cooperativization on the life and culture of tribals.
One of the most striking findings of the study is that the traditional dairy cooperative structure could not become an effective alternative for the co-operative dairying through the weaker tribal producers residing in the remote part of the district. As this kind of model suffers from the basic limitations arising out of local area specialization, lack of integration and its exclusive dependence on nearby urban market. Anand pattern dairy cooperative structure as it is well demonstrated by comparative analysis of the working modern Anand pattern dairy cooperatives and traditional dairy cooperatives in the tribal area under study deserves the replication for development of dairying thought rural poor producers.
