Rainfall is one of the most important climatic factors in determining the socio-economic condition of the people. The present study is one of the first attempts to analyze the distributional pattern of rainfall in a dry region of India. It assesses the viability, trends, frequencies and seasonality in rainfall, analyzes frequencies and intensity of droughts, and identifies rainfall surplus, sufficient and scarcity regions. In the context of Rajasthan, the study observes regional, temporal and seasonal variations in rainfall distribution. The temporal variability is on the increase and the study demarcates the state into three region on the basis of spatial distribution of seasonality.
The book would be useful for police makers to formulate strategies for rainfall harvesting and augmenting the water resources of a dry region like Rajasthan.
