A short sketch of the monk Buddhagoshupatti born in Thaton, Burma, he was an inmate of the Kelasa monastery and he was deputed by king Thinligynang in order to bring back copies of the Buddhist scriptures there. Buddhaghosa was a 5thcentury Indian Theravada Buddhist commentator, translator and philosopher. He worked in the Great Monastery at Anur?dhapura, Sri Lanka and saw himself as being part of the Vibhajjav?da School and in the lineage of the Sinhalese Mah?vih?ra. The name Buddhaghosa means “Voice of the Buddha” (Buddha+ghosa) in Pali, the language in which Buddhaghosa composed. In Sanskrit, the name would be spelled Buddhaghosa, but there is no retroflexs sound in Pali, and the name is not found in Sanskrit works. The volume is a reprint of the 1892 edition.
