The author reveals that this rare and valuable book is specially designed for the use of schools, and for Vernacular students of the language. It has been the author’s endeavour to render the Dictionary as complete as possible, he has therefore not scrupled to introduce many words of Hindi or Sanskrit origin which he found current either in books or the spoken language. The author commends the little work to the favourable regard of the public generally, and particularly to the longtried friends and advocates of the Roman character, as applicable to the Hindustani language, of the immense advantage of which this little Dictionary is no mean evidence. In the compass of 346 duodecimo pages, the author has been able to introduce upwards of 20,000 Hindustani words with their renderings in English, which in the native character would in all probability have filled four times that number of pages.
