The North Eastern Region of India has vast untapped potential for fisheries in terms of many rivers, streams, flood plain wetlands, lakes, ponds, etc. This region is considered as one of the hot spots of freshwater fish biodiversity in the world. These water resources harbour 258 fish species belonging to 21 families and 76 genera. In addition to it paddy-cum-fish cultivation is an important component of fisheries, in general, and culture fisheries in particular of the region. Keeping this view this book examines the productivity of fisheries, resource-use efficiency, livelihood options, as well as the marketing structure of fisheries of Arunachal Pradesh, the easternmost State of the region. The book also discusses the challenges faced by the fish farmers to enhance the production of fishes in the State.
