The present book is about the Hadauti region — the land of Hada Rajputs in Rajasthan. It traces the changes that took place in the Kota principality during the 18th century against the historical background of its emergence and integration with the Mughal Empire. The two major thrusts of the book are the nature of conflicts and tensions pervading the Hada polity, economy and rural society and the forms of protests and resistance adopted by various sections. It also argues that the merchant class of Hadauti played a crucial role in the expansion of agriculture and successfully took advantage of its links with the state for expansion of trade network in the region.
