PUBLIC SECTORS IN INDIA

Public sector in India has been attracting the attention of the academics, the politicians, the practitioners and the people alike for quite some time. There has been constant attack on its working which went to the extent of branding it as ‘white elephant’. From the very inception of the public sector in India where it was to achieve the ‘commanding heights’ to the present status of the ‘rolling back of the state sector’ much has happened in the field of industrial development in the country. The much ‘maligned’, ‘labelled’ and ‘condemnet’ image of public enterprises in India has been agitating the minds of the populace. To project the real picture of the public sector in the country in right perspective, devoid of any bias was the pressing need of the hour. Further, the literature on the subject was fragmented and available in piecemeals only on specific dimensions of the public sector. With this end in view, the present volume makes an endeavour to bring together the scholarly contributions of the academics and administrator in a concrete form. It will definitely, fill the above vacuum and, at the same time, be considerably useful to the teachers, scholars and practitioners of the subject alike.
