About the Book : At the request of many of our subscribers we have reprinted in book form the articles which appeared in the Pioneer on CoinCollecting in Northern India. These articles were, as was surmised at the time of their appearance, by the author, Honorary Numismatist to the Government of India. An additional article has been written, and a list of works on the coins of the Northern India and the adjoining countries up to date, and six plates of illustrations of coins, several hitherto unpublished, has also been added. His residence of over thirty years in Amritsar has made him acquainted with most of the series of coins which at different times were struck in Northern India, and in this book he gives in a condensed form the result of his researches by way of guidance to those who are inclined to take up the fascinating subject of Indian numismatics. This book discusses the progress of coinage from the time of Bactria and the IndoGreek kings up to the later Mugals. The coins of the Kashmiri Kings, the earlier emperors of Delhi, the coins of Babar. Humayun, Akbar, and the Suri are also featured. Officers interested in the study of the history of the country of their adoption will find in it much that is new and interesting. The general reader will obtain much necessary information from it, and the student of history will find in it a safe guide.
